The house is, for most of us, a lifelong investment but if you have a house that’s a little too big for your needs and don’t know what to do with that spare room, this blog post is here to inspire you.
Big or small, there are so many ways in which you can add value to your home and to your life by turning that spare room into something that will suit your needs, and who know, it might even become your favourite room in the house. Here are some spare room ideas for you!
What to do with a small spare room?
If you have a small spare room, don’t panic! There are plenty of things you can add to it to make it both nice and functional. Here is what you can do with a tiny spare room:
Kids play room
If you are a parent, you probably have a bunch of toys laying around the house. If you have an extra room to spare, you can use that to deposit all your child’s toys into one place. Not to mention the fact this might bring you some peace and quiet in the leaving room while your child plays in their room, if they are old enough to play on their own that is.
A great way to use a small spare room is to turn it into a laundry room. Instead of having the washing machine and the dryer awkwardly sitting in the kitchen or living room, you can have a special room just for doing laundry. This will change the overall look of your home, making it neater and more luxurious.
If you love reading and you want a place to clear your mind after a long day, why not turn that spare room you have into a small reading room. All you need is a comfortable chair, a lamp and some wall bookshelves. Throw in some small decorations like some plants and some paintings and, voila, you have a nice place to relax while reading.
Talking about making your house more luxurious, one way to do so and to also make it more practical is to turn that spare room into a pantry. This will make your kitchen less crowded as well, by having a special place where you can store your products and groceries.
What to do with a big spare room?
If you are a professional who enjoys working from home, turning the spare room into an office can be a great idea. This way you will be more productive as you will associate that room with working, rather than doing it in bed or at the dinner table, which could get you to lose focus and make working more difficult.
Walk in wardrobe
Those who say they don’t want a walk-in wardrobe are lying. So why not turn your spare room into one and have your dream home? This way your drawers won’t be packed to the max with clothes, you will have a special place to store everything neatly. This is also great for storing shoes as well, rather than yourself or guests tripping over all the pairs by the front door.
Don’t fancy going to the gym? Bring the gym to your house! A spare room can make for a great home gym which can keep you healthy and fit, in the comfort of your own home. You will have to invest into some equipment, but that investment will pay off in the end, not to mention it will probably end up being much less expensive than your yearly gym membership.
Another potential use for a spare room is to turn it into a fun games room. This way, when you have guests over they are sure to be entertained and have a great night. You can add a mini bar to it, if you feel fancy, to make it even more fun. Warning! Your guest might not want to leave.
If you’ve tried finding a use for your spare room but nothing felt quite right, an option might be to downgrade to a smaller home.
